Dirty Birds are a type of digital artifact called Ordinals.
Ordinals are a non-fungible token standard native to the bitcoin blockchain. Images, sound files, video or GIF, can be inscribed on to individual satoshis. Sats are the smallest denomination of an individual bitcoin. There are 100 million sats in each bitcoin.
Each Dirty Bird Ordianl will be inscribed on a lot of 546 sats. This will always give them monetary value as sats are fractions of a bitcoin. As the price of bitcoin rises the value of sats increases.
Longevity
Traditional NFTs are stored on a centralized server making them susceptible to natural disasters, government intervention, and so on. Ordinals are inscribed on individual satoshis in the same way transaction data is stored on bitcoin. Bitcoin is the largest and most decentralized network of computers from all over the world, working together to secure the authenticity of the bitcoin ledger.
Dirty Birds will live on the bitcoin blockchain for as long as computers exsist on this planet and they are minning bitcoin.
